Needle Arts and Crafts

Jefferson Car Club

Young Writers Studio
This is a middle school writing club in partnership with the Alden B Dow Home and Studio. They meet one Tuesday a month at the Home and Studio. Rubiks Cube Club

A S.T.E.M team of students from grades 6th -8th meet from October until beginning of March (unless team earns a state invitation then continues until end of April). There are 23 events to prepare for at a regional tournament at Delta College at the end of February. Events include a variety of S.T.E.M areas such as Anatomy and Physiology, Battery buggy, Circuits Lab, Herpetology, Dynamic Planet, Crime busters, Thermodynamics, Road Scholar and more. Some events change every year. Club is open to all students yet only 15 students can compete in the regional tournament. Practices for 2018-19 are on Tuesday from 3-4:30 in room 305. You Be The Chemist
This is a competition for students in grades 5th -8th to demonstrate knowledge in Chemistry. A school qualifier test is administered to place the top two students to compete YBTC Local Challenge Competition is scheduled for February 27th after school at SVSU. Informational meetings are held in November. Jefferson School Qualifier is scheduled for January 16th or 17th, 2019 in room 305.
Optional practices days are on Thursday- Dec 13th, Dec 20th, Jan 3rd and Jan 10th.

MDOT Bridge Building Teams
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Transportation and Civil Engineering (TRAC) Program teaches secondary students how to apply a variety of math and science concepts to common engineering problems occurring in transportation systems. This event is designed to allow students the opportunity to develop a truss bridge that will be tested for strength-to-weight ratio. Student teams from grades 7 and 8 will be competing against other TRAC student teams from across Michigan. Applications for teams are due early November. Student teams research, build, test and prepare a presentation to share their design at the 2019 Michigan Design & Build Bridge Challenge on April 16, 2019. Schoolhouse Rock, Jr. Play

Head to Head
This is a fun and exciting program in which 6th, 7th and 8th grade students compete in:
- written tests in eight subject areas
- a live quiz show-style event
- black & white and color art performance events
- vocal music solos and ensembles
- instrumental music solos and ensembles
- public speaking individual and group events
With 17 different events at each meet, every student has an opportunity to shine – no matter what their interests! Science? Art? Sports? Math? Music? Trivia? Yes, yes and more yesses! Every kid deserves to hear cheering.
